Gazprom EP International Continues Activities in Tajikistan
Dushanbe, 20 March 2019 — Tajikistan’s Government headquarters hosted the 16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries co-presided by Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda and First Deputy Chairman of the Government and Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Anton Siluanov.
The Sides discussed, at expert level, the status and prospects of Tajik-Russian cooperation addressing the full range of commercial and economic aspects. Special attention was paid to the oil and gas projects executed by Gazprom EP International in the territory of Tajikistan.
Gazprom EP International has been operating in Tajikistan since 2006. The company has explored four license areas over this period. Its operations included, inter alia, seismic and gravity surveys, as well as drilling Central Asia’s deepest well, Shakhrinav-1P. The company acquired reliable and detailed data on the region’s hydrocarbon prospectivity and was the first to prove its deep sediments to be oil and gas bearing.
Through their subject-matter working groups, previously established by the Russian and Tajik partners, Gazprom and Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources committed to paving the path for Gazprom EP International B.V. to establish liaison with the state-owned Naftu gaz and Sugdnaftugaz thus enabling proposals and further project identification in the Republic of Tajikistan. It was also recommended to expedite the approval of the as-yet unfinished Investment Agreement on exploring the subsurface within oil and gas promising areas of the Republic of Tajikistan and developing discovered hydrocarbon fields between the Government of Tajikistan, Gazprom, and Gazprom EP International B.V.
