From 16th to 23rd of May, Sochi will host the final round of the Gazprom's 6th corporate Fakel Festival (in Krasnaya Polyana). The competition featuring amateur performing arts ensembles and performers will bring together over 1,500 participants and guests. The festival will host representatives of Gazprom's 37 subsidiaries and delegations from France, Germany, Slovenia, China, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. The festival will run for three days, and the participants will compete on the stage of the Congress Centre in the Gorki Gorod resort. Each participant will try to win the jury's vote with their programmes in one of the following categories: "singing", "choreography", "vocal-instrumental and instrumental ensembles", "circus and original genre", and "folk". As part of the festival, a Young Artist contest will also be organised. The best performers and performing groups will be determined in three age groups: children aged 5 to 10 and 11 to 16 years old and adults over 17 years old. The awards ceremony of the 6th Fakel Festival will be held on 21st of May.
The Festival's jury will be headed by Alexandra Permyakova, People's Artist of Russia, laureate of the RF Government Prize, Presidium member of the Presidential Council of the Russian Federation for Culture and Art, professor, and director of the Pyatnitsky Russian Folk Chorus.
The Fakel's final round is brought to us by Gazprom Transgaz Krasnodar.
The original idea to organise a corporate festival came from the company's staff and was supported by the company's management. In 2003, the Management Board of Gazprom authorised the organisation of the Fakel Festival that gathered together amateur performing arts ensembles and performers from Gazprom's subsidiary companies.
The corporate festival runs every two years over three rounds. During the first round, the participating Gazprom subsidiaries determine their best performers who will go on to participate in the regional rounds. In the second round, regional festivals are held (in the southern and northern areas). The winning performers from the regional festivals proceed to the third and final round.
The first corporate Fakel Festival was held in 2004-2005. Regional festivals were held twice in Orenburg, while other host sites included Yugorsk, Surgut, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Tomsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Astrakhan, Belgorod, and Khanty-Mansiysk. Since 2006 up until 2012, the final rounds of the festival have been held in Gelendzhik. In 2013, the Festival final took place in Vitebsk, Belarus.
