On 19 July 2019, Gazprom EP International’s team for the first time participated in the interregional footgolf tournament, WHITE NIGHTS CUP 2019 held at the Strawberry Fields golf club,Leningrad Oblast. The debut showed that our guys definitely put their best foot forward: they captured the tournament’s silver leaving almost all other teams behind except for the professionals – the FC Zenit veterans. A well-coordinated and strategic playstyle along with some futsal experience worked perfectly for our team.
The honor of Gazprom EP International was upheld by:
Denis Borovitskii – Captain of the team, Lead Specialist of Oil & Gas Production Division;
Grigoriy Kuropatkin – Head of Drilling Division;
Artemii Alemesov – Inspector of Corporate Security Department;
Alexander Abramovich – a colleague from Gazprom PJSC, former Gazprom EP International’s employee.
Among the competitors were the teams from Gazprom Neft, FC Zenit,Russian Environmental Operator, Saint Petersburg Administration, Saint Petersburg Legislative Assembly and KSP Steel.Nikolai Valuev, Vice President of the Russian Footgolf Federation, joined one of the teams. At the end of the tournament, he held the official award ceremony.
Footgolf is a sport that derives from football and golf. A course may have either 9 or 18 holes of Ø53 cm and the players try to kick a football into each one, taking as few shots as possible. Footgolf is played on specially built footgolf courses, though it may also be played on regular golf courses with special holes.
“The tournament has proven that people with different level of skills can play footgolf – both men and women. Moreover, it is an excellent opportunity for teambuilding because it unites the team, boosts team spirit and gives a lot of positive emotions. It develops strategic and team thinking that makes a positive effect on the work. I recommend it to everybody and hope that this unusual sport will be popular in the company and beyond”.
“I am a first-timer at this tournament but I see that footgolf has a great potential to become a mass sport. It is a team sport where every player can help the team to achieve a positive result regardless of thephysical training. I think it can be a better alternative to family leisure time when, say, children and parents join different teams or families compete with each other. The main thing is the thrill of footgolf and positive emotions”.
