The Environmental Protection. Energy Saving section met during the latest session of the PJSC Gazprom Scientific and Technical Council that was held in Kazan on 22-23 September to discuss the issue of Normative and technical provisions for ensuring industrial environmental control and monitoring of PJSC Gazprom construction and maintenance facilities.
Lilia Yagudina, health, occupational safety and environmental protection expert in the Gazprom International Production Department, presented a report on Ensuring industrial environmental control and monitoring of construction and maintenance facilities abroad as seen from the experience of drilling prospection wells in Algeria.
The report covered some of the main issues that a company conducting oil and gas exploration in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria has to face to ensure industrial environmental control and monitoring during the process of drilling prospection wells.
The report covered such issues as the requirements of Algerian legislature concerning the environmental impact assessment (EIA) prior to the start of work, the use and protection of water resources, the limitations on burning gas, remediation of well sites as well as other oil and gas infrastructure sites, special environmental protection taxes, and measures to ensure that the work carried out in the country is compliant with its legislation.

The PJSC Gazprom Scientific and Technical Council was set up to provide means for resolving issues concerning the development of the company's unified policy in the fields of innovation and scientific and technical development.
The Council consists of a Bureau and 15 specialized sections, the scope of which covers the entire technological chain from exploration to transport of gas and its products to consumers.
The members of the Council include representatives of Gazprom’s top management, as well as that of its affiliate production companies, members of industry-wide scientific research and design institutes, and respected scientists from the Russian Academy of Science.
