Last week, the staff and employees of the Gazprom International Geological Survey Group attended the 1st International Scientific Conference devoted to the subject of “Studies of Petroleum Reservoir Systems: Challenges & Prospects” (SPRS-2016). The Conference was organized jointly by PJSC Gazprom and the Scientific and Research Institute Gazprom VNIIGAZ, and was held in Moscow, September 12-14.
Approximately 150 delegates from Gazprom's various affiliate and subsidiary companies attended the Conference together with representatives from national and foreign scientific centres, and directors and experts from major international oil and gas companies. During the Conference, the participants discussed recent trends, fields for development as well as technologies related to oil and gas exploration.
Experts from Gazprom International presented several papers reflecting their vast experience of implementing modern reservoir system evaluation methods into the process of international hydrocarbon field exploration projects.
Thus, in particular, the paper on testing wells on the Vietnam shelf focused on the use of Saturn radial probe as a part of well logging suite to determine gas potential of the upper reservoirs and simulate reservoir properties.
The paper on “The Specificities of Testing Wells in Naturally Fractured Reservoirs of Gas Condensate Fields" contained an exhaustive analysis and assessment of challenging-rock properties while producing hydrocarbons.
Another paper, also based on the example of one of Vietnam’s offshore fields, presented an analysis of compaction trend, based on core data.
Overall, the Conference’s technical sections provided a forum for the presentation and later discussion of approximately a hundred scientific papers.
The participants emphasized the importance of such a comprehensive study of reservoir systems as a tool to enhance the efficiency of field exploration, development and operation, as well as the means for assessing their potential.
Gazprom International, a 100% subsidiary of PJSC Gazprom, is the specialized enterprise for implementing Gazprom's projects in the areas of prospecting, exploration and development of hydrocarbons outside the Russian Federation. The company operates in nearly two dozen countries on four continents.
Gazprom VNIIGAS LLC is the leading scientific and technological research centre of PJSC Gazprom. The institute's activity spans virtually all aspects of the petroleum industry: from field exploration and development , including offshore exploration, to the processing and wellsite treatment of gas and condensate, to transportation, underground storage, gas usage, and matters of environmental safety and energy efficiency. The institute brings together 20 scientific centres, as well as more than 60 stands and installations based on their individual research and experiments. VNIIGAZ holds more than 300 patents for inventive work.
