On December 20 a seminar was held in Tehran (Iran) as part of the PAO Gazprom Year of Ecology on the topic "Preserving nature. 2017 – Gazprom Year of Ecology". The seminar was attended by representatives of PAO Gazprom subsidiaries, heads of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, national oil and gas companies, and representatives of foreign companies accredited in Iran.
Gazprom International Operations Department Specialist Liliya Yagudina gave a presentation on the topic "Gazprom International experience in drilling waste management on the example of the project in Algeria". The presentation generated significant interest among the seminar participants, including representatives of Iranian oil producing and service companies, and foreign organizations accredited in Iran.
During the presentation, Gazprom International shared the experience of in drilling waste management and other measures to minimize the negative impact of exploratory well drilling at El Assel located in the Berkine oil and gas basin in eastern Algeria.
The sustainable use of natural resources and continuous reduction of environmental costs are among the key priorities for Gazprom International. When developing the environmental measures for each project, the company is guided by the provisions of relevant international regulatory and legal documents that define the key requirements for sustainable subsurface management, environmental protection and industrial safety.

However, in recent years, due to the international sanctions imposed on the country, the production of gas and oil has significantly decreased.
In March, Gazprom and National Iranian Oil Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of prospecting, exploration and production of hydrocarbons in Iran.
